Plot: In a small town, the influential Lin Chi-Hsing's son is found dead with Cheng Niang, the wine shop owner. Lin accuses Tseng Chai-Chu, Cheng Niang's husband, of murder. Tseng pleads innocence while Cheng Niang vanishes. Desperate, Lin bribes Magistrate Tang to execute Tseng. Upon learning of her husband's death, Cheng Niang takes her own life. Haunted by guilt, Magistrate Tang is tormented by the ghosts of Tseng and Cheng Niang each night.
