Plot: Elvis reigns supreme in rural Louisiana during the summer of 1957. Dani is 14 years old and approaching adulthood. Her older sister is gorgeous, clever, and will be attending Duke in the autumn; her mother is expecting her fourth child (Dad wants a son), and Dad is rather strict. Court Foster, 17, his widowed mother, and two younger brothers move into the abandoned farm next door, making life sweeter. Court admires Dani's upbeat demeanor and directness, and despite his manly responsibilities on the farm, they occasionally go swimming. The seas of adolescence are deeper than Dani understands, as her and Court's emotions become entangled. Then Mother Nature throws Dani a series of devastating surprises, forcing her to confront new feelings.
