Plot: Jess Franco revisits the narrative of de Sade in this film, a reinterpretation of similar narratives from 1969 and 1970, among others. This rendition features a deviant duo (Robert Foster, Mabel Escano) who obsessively pursue a young teenager named Eugenie (Katja Bienert), eventually luring her to their secluded island with the intention of violating her innocence. Franco, with an extensive filmography, often recreates his own narratives, sometimes multiple times as in this case. I had high expectations for this film given that its predecessors are considered some of Franco’s finest work, however, the narrative in this version lacks fluidity. The initial forty minutes of the film primarily focus on the couple’s pursuit of the young girl, often depicted in a state of undress. While Franco manages to infuse these scenes with a certain eroticism, they eventually become monotonous and by the time the narrative shifts to the island, the plot becomes predictable and the psychedelic sexual scenes lose their impact, unlike in the previous versions where they were disturbing and bizarre..
